Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Great pizza there seems to be a little longer than normal wait ask for the house sauce Pretty wicked cold PBR on draft great staff reasonable priced

The slice of pizza I had was OK. When we walked in we did not know whether to sit down or order at the cash register. Store seemed understaffed with 2 people handling orders and baking pizzas. Place would have been more chaotic with a few more young children. Selection of both beer and soda was mass market. And forget about deep dish at this place! Better choices for pizza are in nearby Salida.

So excited to try the Pizza here. Called to inquire and received no answer. Went by the next day and all the windows were papered over. We guess they are closed...for good

Based on Yelp reviews we gave this a shot yesterday and they didn't disappoint. It was a bit more "hole in the wall" Than anticipated but our kids loved it and there was a good mix of locals and tourists. The food took a little longer than expected but the staff were friendly. The garlic cheesy bread alone was worth the drive and the meat lovers was generous. Their happy hour $5 pitchers of beer is a great value, though I didn't partake yesterday.

Used to be the first thing we did when we got here but last couple times they seem to be lacking in service. Wait on the phone forever if they actually answer. Takes too long to get a pizza for pick up. Think we're moving on.

I went back to Colorado to visit my parents and we ordered a pizza from Pizza Works one night. The only way to describe the pizza was burned and beat to sh!t. I like pizza but not enough to eat something that looked like it had been left in the desert sun for a week and then dragged through the mud before being boxed up.

This was my go to pizza joint for my yearly camping trip up in Cottonwood Pass. It was a Saturday night at 7pm (late July, peak of tourist season). My group had done a seven mile hike earlier in the day and we were famished. We showed up and the place was about half full and the aroma was mouthwatering. We approached the hostess stand and asked where to sit and were promptly told that they were closed. Needless to say, our minds were blown. The place was staffed by a bunch of high school age kids, and I'm sure they were eager to be elsewhere, but 7pm on a Saturday night during peak tourist season? I hope the owner reads this and realizes his employees threw away at least $100 tab.

Great pizza and prices, atmosphere is a little meh. Also $5 pitchers during happy hour... Yes plz

Really enjoyed our two pizzas. We had a Meat Lovers and an Italian and they were enormous and incredibly tasty. Fantastic sauce and ingredients (although it would be better if they distributed the ground toppings more evenly), and they got the crust just right. Decent service but nothing ground-breaking. We'll be back whenever we travel through Buena Vista.

This was a few doors down from where I was staying. I decided to dine in. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. Fountain drinks are self served with Coca Cola products. The atmosphere was okay. There were two things I didn't like. The long wait time of 35 minutes when this place wasn't very busy. Second the pizza crust was hard and thin and burnt on the outside. The sauce and ingredients were very good. I don't get what the great ratings were about. This place has a lot of potential, but the staff working in the back need some serious training by management and/or the owners. Next time I will likely order from Dominos instead.

  • Anita S.

Customer service was terrible for dining in. We weren't told that a lot of carry out pizzas were ahead of us. We waited an hour and found out the pizza wasn't even made yet. We insisted on getting our money back and left.

Been eating here for several summers. Always been happy until this last trip. They'e changed the beef on pizza to something very crumbly and messy to eat. Should go back to chunks and maybe put toppings on with cheese on over all.

  • Jason H.

I'm really surprised to see this place so highly rated. It's average at best. Staff seemed in different. The atmosphere is laid back but kind of shabby in a not so cool way. If people think this is some of the best pizza they've had then perhaps they consider chains like Dominoes and Pizza Hut good. Frankly, I don't think the quality matches the price. There's nothing special about this place and I think there are plenty of other places in BV that are a better value with a nicer feel atmosphere.

  • Tony H.

I've been to a lot of pizza joints over the years but Pizza Works in Buena Vista, CO is one of the best! They specialize in New York style hand-tossed pizza and obviously use excellent quality ingredients because the pizza tastes amazing. We've eaten in the restaurant many times when passing through BV and even took pizza to go up to our campsite on Mt. Princeston once. Talk about the best of both worlds!! This is by far the best pizza joint in BV and possibly rates in the top 10 for Colorado.

  • Jeremy C.

Excellent pizza, best I've had in a long time. I wish they had a place like this in Kansas City. The cheese was perfect, sauce was great. The crust was cooked to perfection and they wasn't shy with the meat! The staff was very friendly and polite. I highly recommend this place. Prices are reasonable on food and beer. Keep up the good work.

We ordered 10 regular pizzas and 4 gluten free, they were all amazing. I was actually afraid the the gluten free ones were not gluten free they were so good. Thanks for making such wonderful crust!

  • Stacie G.

Pretty tasty pizza and I can see why so many folks would give it 5 stars. However, I like a thicker crust and the crust on this pizza was slightly crunchy and thinner than what I prefer. I did have to wait for my Tropical 12-inch pizza but that's understandable as they were VERY busy (slammed!) and the pizzas are made to order. Definitely worthy of your business. I recommend giving them a try!

  • John Eung Soo K.

Came to BV on vacation and was disappointed with the food here. We came to Pizza Works and it was terrific. We ordered the hot wing appetizer and the meat lovers pizza. The wings were juicy and fresh and the pizza was stacked. No stinginess on the cheese or topping. The only issue was the sauce. It was a little bland but if I could give a 4.5, I would do that. We also got the $5 pitcher of PBR for happy hour. Can't beat that. Pizza Works just works for solid pizza.

  • Eric I.

We've all had them before, Pizza Hut, Dominos, etc. There are no surprises when it comes to the major pizza chains. The service is usually subpar, and the pizza is fairly bland for the price. During a trip back home from Leadville, we drove through Buena Vista with our stomachs growling and we spotted this quaint looking pizzeria upon entering city limits. The menu offers a good variety of options and different sizes for your palette. We ordered a specialty half and half, no problems getting our order taken in a timely, friendly manner. Pizza Works offers a good variety of draft and bottle beers, fountain sodas and even 2 Liters. I was a bit confused at first, considering fountain drinks each were $1.50(?) (there were 4 of us, so that would have cost $6 plus tax). Pizza Works offers the option of getting a 2 Liter of your choice for $2.50 and all the cups and ice your party needs. A 2 Liter between the four of us was perfect and cash saving on top of it. The pizza itself took around 25 minutes from placing the order to having it served at our table. That's typically longer than expected. But I was willing to cut some slack since it was their dinner rush. Well, when our pie arrived, the wait was so worth it. The toppings, meats and vegetables were surprising fresh and they were not shy about loading the pizza with cheese either. The sauce was fair, nothing overwhelming there. The crust held the pizza together well and was so delicious, even the kids ate their entire crusts...(they never do that with other pizzas btw). We left Pizza Works happy, full and satisfied. Under $30 to feed 4 was a great value. If only we could find a place like this in Denver. When in Buena Vista again, we will go back. No questions asked.

Yes,yes. Pizza was great, the cheese, the sauce and the crust was perfect. Nice young staff. This is our favorite place to go now.

Words cannot express what a gem this place is in a mountain town. It's a definite must eat after a long day of hiking near by 14ers. Delicious!

  • K. W.

Like Merle H said. I was hungry and it was there. Now don't get me wrong. It was good just not outstanding. The crust was crust, not thick or thin. They take it off the stone and give it a brown crisp crust. The c-bacon was diced up, liked that easier to eat. If your are hungry and want pizza it will do. At lunch they have it by the slice. A quick grab and go.

We were very excited to try Pizza Works, several friends recommended. However, I was not a fan. We ordered half meat lovers and half pineapple/ham. I didn't try the pineapple/ham, but my husband said it was okay. The meat lovers was okay, too much ground hamburger and the ham didn't really taste like ham.
